AirAsia suspends flights to Taiwan, extends period of credit account or refund for flights to mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao
AirAsia has recently announced that it has canceled flights between the Philippines and China until the government’s further notice amid the spread of novel coronavirus.
It can be recalled that the airline canceled flights to/from cities of mainland China, which include Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, as well as Macao SAR, and Hong Kong SAR.
Just today, Feb. 11, it has also canceled flights between the Philippines and Taiwan, particularly in Kaohsiung and Taipei.
It is worth mentioning that the firm has also extended the period to obtain a credit account or a full refund for its guests that have booked their flights to/from Macao, Hong Kong, and mainland China until March 28, 2020.
AirAsia is going to send an SMS or email to its guests who were affected by the said cancellation. As such, the company encourages them to have their contact details updated through the “My Bookings” feature on the official website of the airline, airasia.com. This is to make sure that they can receive notifications from the company.
Another option is to head on over to the “Flight Status” feature on the said website or through the mobile app.
Note that guests are given provisions once their flights are canceled because they are affected by the imposed restrictions to/from the abovementioned destinations.
Guests are given a chance to change their flight to a new travel date, but it should be on the same route within 30 calendar days starting March 29, 2020. The good news is that you need not fork out an additional cost. But, it is subject to seat availability.
Guests can retain the value of their fare in their AirAsia Big Loyalty account for their future travel with the company. Note that the online credit account is to be redeemed for booking within 90 calendar days from the issuance date for their travel with the airline.
“The actual travel dates can be after the expiry date as long as our flight schedule is out,” said AirAsia.
This is applicable for affected flights to/from the abovementioned destinations until March 28, 2020.
Guests are likewise given the chance to obtain a full refund to their original payment method for the amount equivalent to their booking. This is applicable to flights that have been affected until March 28, 2020.
What guests need to do is to head to the main menu categories at support.airasia.com then go to the “Refund” option. Next, click the “New Refund Request” and then the “Flight Cancellation Refund.” Follow the instructions provided by the AVA.
Now, if bookings are made through travel agents, a request for a refund shall be made through the agents.
