Hotel Review: Hotel Lucky Chinatown in Binondo, Manila

Hotel Lucky Chinatown Review

Manila, Philippines — It was only recently when Team Out of Town have been invited to the grand opening of Hotel Lucky Chinatown (hotel info), Megaworld’s eighth homegrown hotel brand in the country.

The property, in many respects, was meticulously designed to be the center of the bustling Binondo tourism scene, and so Team Out of Town only thought it fitting to do a hotel review for travelers who are looking for somewhere to stay in the world’s oldest Chinatown.

Arrival Experience

Prior to checking in, we received a pre-arrival email welcoming us to the hotel. This confirmation email also includes hotel rules and standard reservation details like billing arrangements, rates, and meal inclusions. We arrived earlier (standard check-in time is at 2 p.m.) and the concierge was kind enough to initiate an early check-in. The staff were generally courteous, smiling politely every now and then. We opted that no one ushers us into our rooms, but there will be bellboys who will assist you should you need assistance for your luggage.

Rooms

The room that we booked is a Standard Queen, and overlooking it was an indoor Zen garden in the hotel atrium with its own sunroof. The modest space was pleasantly furnished with natural fabrics. Inside are mini-bar items and refreshments, coffee and tea-making appliances and bathroom essentials. Apart from the standard rooms, there are also spacious executive suites with its own bathtub.

Food

Hotel Lucky Chinatown has its own all-day dining restaurant, called the Cafe de Chinatown, managed by Museum Cafe and Chelsea Kitchen operator, Raintree Group of Companies. The breakfast buffet selection here is quite limited, but they serve delicious Chinese dishes. If you want to explore other restaurant options, we recommend Café Mezzanine at 650 Ongpin St. or Dong Bei Dumplings at 642 Yuchengco St.

Like other Megaworld hotel properties, Lucky Chinatown also has its own Zabana Bar, where you can order signature drink concoctions like Jack Sparrow Shooter or Kaakit-akit.

It also has a Boardroom and three meeting rooms for smaller groups. Other amenities include a spa, sauna, jacuzzi, and a fitness center.

Departure

Our departure experience was as seamless as our arrival experience. We requested a late check-out this time to pack our stuff, but the front desk informed us that they are fully booked for the day so they cannot accommodate our request. Overall, it has been a relaxing stay at the heart of Binondo.
